#StudentFeatureFriday Social Media Campaign

I created this cross-platform social media campaign to help diversify our content and foster growth on our new Instagram page.

I had to find, vet, interview and prepare the students for each feature.

There are three main components:

A social media takeover by an undergraduate student on Instagram and Twitter. The number of tweets varied between 8-18 per feature. For Instagram, there was a promo post on Thursday, an intro post on Friday, and then the rest of the content was put in Instagram stories which were later added to Instagram highlights.

A feature story about the student.

An evergreen post on Facebook and LinkedIn about the feature story that also directs readers to Twitter and Instagram for the takeover.

#StudentFeatureFridays was held bi-weekly and showcased students of different backgrounds and disciplines.

Overall, my goals were exceeded. We gained almost 80 followers total new followers on Instagram, and average for the two posts per feature, engagement rates were between 10 to 15 percent.

Twitter engagement averages per feature were between 4 and 6 percent.

Here are a couple of the students featured:

Mellany Ona Ayala

Mellany was the first student to be featured. Her story that I wrote illustrated her passion for sustainability and her involvement in student organizations.

Tyler Benson

Tyler was our feature right before Halloween. He is a track athlete, creative, and information technology major. His story was actually published by someone at Mason’s central communications, but this allowed for more time to learn about Tyler for the social media aspect and prep him for more video-centered content.
